Foster Care Fortnight

Foster Care Fortnight, running this year from 17th-30th May, is an annual campaign that raises the profile of fostering and highlights the need for more foster carers.

Fostering is changing; foster carers play a vital role in caring for and supporting fostered children, there are over 51,000 children in the UK who cannot live with their own families and are being looked after by foster carers.

This year’s campaign, under the strapline “Do you have the skills to foster?”, aims to encourage people to consider a career in fostering and focuses on the personal and professional skills that a modern foster carer needs to fulfill the role of a child care expert. Foster Care Fortnight 2010 will highlight the changes needed to recruit and retain more foster carers.

To coincide with Foster Care Fortnight, Metro (London) and the London Evening Standard will be publishing two editorially* supported features. Editorial will aim to give a greater understanding of what it takes to become a foster carer as well as showcase a number of organisations and recruiters that are committed and passionate about fostering.

The nature of our readership will ensure that the Foster Care Fortnight message: "Do you have the skills to foster?" will reach a diverse, educated audience who are prepared to volunteer their time for a good cause.
